R.I.P

You will be missed

Very sorry to hear...RIP

reply

R.I.P. David Cassidy. 67 is too young.

reply

Yes, too young, but having a nice reunion with his late father who also died way too young.

R.I.P- you'll always be Keith Partridge to me..."I Think I Love You"

reply

I had heard today that he was in the hospital. Sad to hear he has passed.

Weird, too, in that we lost Florence Henderson ON Thanksgiving Day last year. Her death, despite being in her 80's,
was a total shock (at least to me). DC was only 67, but his hospitalization and death were hardly shocking.

The worst thing Henderson ever drank was Wesson Oil. In other words, stay off the booze, folks....you won't need
two kidneys and a new liver at 67.

LOL! Sorry..... I'd love to die of natural causes in my 90's. It really would be great to just slip away in my sleep..... Hopefully with most of my marbles...
On the other hand, given a choice between Wesson Oil and BOOZE, I'm ready to conk out in a few more years in my late 60's. I'm gonna have fun before I go!

Well stated Miss!
Every word of it...

I'm so sad -- I was one of those little girls who had his posters on literally every inch of my bedroom walls, and had all his records. My dad took me to to see him live twice -- one was the notorious White City Stadium where the fan was crushed to death in front of the stage, causing him to quit touring.

I feel enormous nostalgia-driven sadness; he was such a meaningful part of my life when I was only just past single digits.

I remember you little gals. I was roughly the same age, but I was more into The Beatles and The Stones. I understrand that he was too!
I did like The Monkeys!
I grew to enjoy David some years later while watching reruns of The Partridge Family. He really did resemble his handsome father.

reply

Oh I was a Beatles nut too -- my whole family were into the Beatles like they were our home football team, lol! We had every record as it was released. My sister was going to marry John Lennon, not that John knew anything about that.

I was also going to marry Paul McCartney -- in addition to marrying David Cassidy, of course. ;)

I did have a crush on Davy Jones around the age of 4, but I think it was more a sense of kinship because his haircut had the same bangs/fringe as mine, hahaha!

reply

I loved the ones who were fun. Ringo was my fave. From the Monkeys? Peter Tork!
I can see why Davey would hold the appeal of a four year old...... He was the shortest. LOL!
I can understand his appeal. He really was sweet. I have a book by Davey Jones..... They Made A Monkey Out Of Me. It is one fun autobiography.

As for David Cassidy? I grew fond in later years.

I was actually gonna say something about the height issue, hahahah!

For actual music appreciation, it was the Beatles for me even as young as I was -- I actually vividly remember standing there listening to Beatles albums my sister had put on and being mesmerized by the chord changes of some McCartney songs, even though I didn't know what a chord change even was yet. I was a budding musician myself so it was a reverie I often went into.

As for David Cassidy a bit later -- although the songs were enjoyable pop, I will admit it was more of a crush on that gorgeous face, rather than musical appreciation, lol!

But oddly, now as an adult who long left that crush behind, I think of those songs now -- which he mostly didn't write -- and they were actually very good songs, as pop songs go! Some of the best writers and session people in L.A worked on his albums, though I didn't know that at the time.

I did the same with ABBA -- dismissed them at the time, then later realized "Hey these songs are a little bit amazing!" :)

reply

I had David's posters on my wall, as well! My dad took me to a concert in 1971.

I got into three entirely different styles of bands at that age simultaneously -- The Partridge Family, Alice Cooper, and Eric Clapton. And I loved The Beatles. And the Monkees! Elton John had just released 11-17-70, what an amazing album and one of my all-time favorites of his.

I only just found out this past week about David. Very sad. I am probably going to make another thread so people can post any positive memories or links to favorite videos (we can post sad stuff somewhere else if needed ... it will just be a happy thread).

reply

The Partridge Family AND Alice Cooper, wow! Those were some wide ranging tastes!

I too was very eclectic in my budding tastes back then -- Partridge Family/David, Beatles, and I also got heavily into Joni Mitchell's albums of the late 60s/ early 70s, another borrowing from my sister. Her lyrics were dealing with stuff I hadn't yet even experienced, lol, but they really spoke to me as a female.

reply

I wasn't really into Joni at the time but I did forget to mention the Monkees; you guys were talking about who you liked in the Beatles and the Monkees.

For me, when I was very young I was into Paul, and when I got a little older I liked both Paul and John, favoring John.

In the Monkees, I liked Mickey. Well, I liked ALL of them but Mickey was my favorite.

reply

Mickey was such a natural comedian! He was so much fun in the show and the group.

reply

Yeah, about Alice Cooper, my dad definitely got a little freaked out over lyrics about Dead Babies, and Elton John wanting to burn down a mission, LOL. I knew every chord, every word of those songs.

Iron Butterfly, too! There was some truly great music back then.

reply

I was a kiddie during the ABBA era, but like their tunes now. Although I felt the first "Momma Mia" movie was a bit dull and dry for my taste.
