He always did ask if it was okay

I know its odd, but they did not say no.
Not excusing him, but.

He probably thought it was a bit of a laugh, and i wonder how the women reacted when he went ahead and did it, if they just laughed it off it would have enouraged him to do it again, etc.

I think it's all ridiculous. If someone were to do that to me, I might, (or might not,) think it weird or funny or ridiculous or pathetic. I might tell the person not to do it again. But this destroying of careers and reputations all goes too far. From what I read, he never touched anyone.

It's like as soon as things get close to the black hole or sexual harassment,
it is all equal, a big false equivalency.

It's also not really fair to come down on one person when we know how
prevalent it is, but we do not know what the actual norm of society is, nor
do we deal with it in any way that does not pay off politically for some group.

I mean that I look at this, and most of my fellow men that I know well, if
they are honest have done much worse than this. I am not saying all
the men I know, but most of them, and I am not saying we should ignore
it, but in order to react fairly and intelligently we need to know what we
are up against.

I agree. For a little bit we were on track of really correcting some wrongs in the industry. Weinstein and Spacey are inexcusable and both of them used their power to prey upon people. I don't have any problem with society outing those two and others like them when legitimate assault and/or rape is involved, but we are really starting to blur the lines here. Ever since #metoo became a thing again.

And I knew it would happen. It always does. Story gets out about a serious misdeed, and then suddenly, in all of the momentum, women from all over the world decide to lose focus and get their 5 minutes of fame by making it about them rather than staying on topic.

This was never supposed to be about sexual assault in general, it was about sexual assault in Hollywood. It was about the apex predators in the industry that abuse their power for their own gratification.

But we just couldn't keep it about legit predators. No. Now we had to make it about consensual masturbation, and worse, now Ellen Page wrote a Facebook post about Brett Ratner making a joke about her sexual orientation on set. Like what the hell? I'm sorry for anyone that can't take a tasteless joke, but are we really going to start lumping that in the same category as rape and assault? For real?

It's unbelievable. People are so caught up in the witch hunt that they can't be bothered to reflect on what it is they're getting so outraged over.

It is too much to process, so nothing gets processed.

But I do think anyone should have the right to stand up and complain.
Complaining may be as or more important than free speech, or the kernel
of free speech.

If that lady felt bad about something Al Franken did, she has every right,
but what "institution" in our society is responsible for data archive and
analysis. We think the media, but the media is one of the tools the "apex
predators" use to amplify their voice and power. The cram all these cases
together until they are all the same.

I would not call this a witch hunt though, because there is some deliberation
and it's weird that there is more public discussion about this than there is
about this Budget/ObamaCare-destroying bill that just passed the house.
The witch hunts were extremely brutal and went the other way, to
repress women.

It is just a big noise machine, and somehow people accept it because
they do not have enough time, resources and bandwidth to hear and
think about it and come to an agreement.

Civics, legal rights, procedure, Europe is ahead of us in all those areas,
and yet the forces of evil are determined to knock it down. Is it a
coincidence that all the movements that are not driven by big money
fall apart, but the Conservative Think Tanks supported by billionaires
for decades and who really represent the fewest people keep going?
