So long, Gerard Butler IMDb Message Board!

Wow, it seems rather surreal that the IMDb message boards will be closing in a few weeks.

I started out here at Gerry's board, but have been active in several other boards as well, mostly Politics and Game of Thrones. I won't miss the Politics board (yikes), but I'm going to definitely miss the Game of Thrones board when the new season rolls around. I'm going to have to find a new place to discuss Thrones!

To all the Gerry fans (and critics, LOL) still hanging around here, I will miss you! It's been quiet here for a long time now, but this place still has a lot of memories attached to it.

Take Care, everyone!!

Haven't posted much over the past few years but I must say I will miss the Message Board here at IMDb. I guess social media has claimed another victim with now facebook, twitter and instagram reigning supreme.

Best wishes to all. And Mr. Butler keep making movies! 🎥

I guess it's not surprising that the forums are being closed. Most people communicate by social media these days, though I'm not one of them, because I value my privacy too much. The fan sites are dead for the same reason.

I've always enjoyed this place and the people in it. We had some great discussions and fun times here. At one point, this forum was bursting with intelligent, witty, and hilarious posters.

It would be fun if lurkers came out for some parting words before the end. I hope Gerard Butler has achieved the level of success, fortune, and personal happiness that he wanted, or will achieve it eventually.

I am also going to really miss the IMDB boards. I loved reading and posting here every day. I've been haunting these Gerry boards since 2006 and have enjoyed getting to know the various posters here and feel somehow bereft that it will all end soon. Lately I have been reading the Politics board and think it is very interesting what with all that is happening in Trump's first 100 days. I have also been avidly reading at the 'Black Sails' board, especially as this is the final season. That's going to really hurt, but not as much as what they're doing to my darling Captain Flint, I just love him sooo much LOL. Okay, I know it's a bit sad that I love a murderous pirate, but IMO that Toby Stephens bloke is beyond gorgeous and sexy, followed closely by Ray Stevenson, simply fabulous as the fierce and imposing 'Blackbeard'. Toby's real life brother Chris Larkin has also just joined the cast as a horribly sadistic naval officer and I so hope they have a scene together. I kind of only remember Chris from 'Master and Commander'.

I see where they are already taking up a petition to keep these message boards, whether or not that will count. Surely IMDB will lose by doing this? Does anyone think perhaps Mr Trump could have anything to do with it? Supposedly some angst between him and the owner of Amazon or something? He does seem hyper sensitive to negative comments anywhere in public forums and hasn't there been mention that he wants to change libel laws or something? It seems he is certainly making his presence felt trying to live up to his election promises. BTW who else is tired of celebrities mouthing off? It's a bit off putting IMO and I wish they would stick to performing. Also, what's up with Ashley Judd and her tirade? and Madonna threatening to bomb the White House for God's sake? It can't be good for their careers can it? I also read where some Trump supporter got their head bashed in with a shovel at the Berkley fiasco, but didn't hear if he lived or died. I've never really followed American politics, but I am kind of thinking that in a 'democracy' the people chose to vote for this President didn't they? Why then all this Democrat backlash? especially the rioting and violence? Although I did kind of feel sorry for some of those poor foreign families held up at airports. One of the posters on another site said that she was terrified when protesters threw cardboard placards at her just because she was allowed through. I guess you do have to wonder what's up next. I so hope it all settles down soon.

Anyway, I still can't believe this board will soon be gone, I used to especially enjoy being an observer during the heated political debates with the super intelligent posters on the Gerry board. Those posts were amongst the best during the halcyon days of this very busy and super entertaining board. Where did Evil and Robin go? I have missed them and so many others. I will miss also all of you great and interesting people who have hung in here to the very end discussing GB and his movies. I'm really not into fansites or facebook and twitter and don't post at JJ, although now I guess I'll still read there and hopefully I'll see some of you somewhere else in the future.

Sadly, I guess for now it's hugs and cheers everyone and thank you so much for the memories. It's sure been a fun ride while it lasted. Also, lots of good luck to Gerry B in his life and future career. I used to think and I guess I still do that he was one of the most handsome and sexiest of actors to ever grace a movie screen whilst presenting to the world a kind of flawed and likeable rascal in real life. Here is my tribute (LOL won't you all miss me and my videos?)

Robyn,

Your posts are always thought provoking. While I usually avoid political discussions, I have a few comments regarding yours.

Does anyone think perhaps Mr Trump could have anything to do with it?

I don't think so, although he is attempting to censor the press and media. They have been ordered to "sit down and shut up" by his racist advisor Bannon. If he could control this and every other site, he would.

It seems he is certainly making his presence felt trying to live up to his election promises.

He is acting more like a dictator than a president. Numerous executive orders (decried by Republicans when issued by Obama) are overkill.

BTW who else is tired of celebrities mouthing off? It's a bit off putting IMO and I wish they would stick to performing. Also, what's up with Ashley Judd and her tirade? and Madonna threatening to bomb the White House for God's sake

It depends on the celebrity. I've never been a Madonna fan or know much about Ashley Judd. But when someone with the gravitas of Meryl Streep speaks up, I am interested.

I also read where some Trump supporter got their head bashed in with a shovel at the Berkley fiasco, but didn't hear if he lived or died.

If that happened, it is wrong, but Trump encouraged violence against dissenters in his crowds, promising to support them if arrested, and there were many incidents at his rallies.

I've never really followed American politics, but I am kind of thinking that in a 'democracy' the people chose to vote for this President didn't they? Why then all this Democrat backlash? especially the rioting and violence?

Actually, Hilary Clinton won the popular vote by over 3 million votes, but we have an antiquated electoral college system, which allows the winner of states to override the democratic winner.

Aren't you a little offended by the way Trump treated your Prime Minister a few days ago? He argued, disrespected, and even hung up on another country's leader. Australia has been one of our most loyal allies forever. Next he will be banning Australians from entering the U.S.

We are a very divided nation and Trump is doing nothing to unite us. It is all about corporations, white men, and the richest cabinet in American history. So much for the little guy who put their faith in him.

Honestly, who knows where it will all end Barberry. It seems many countries worldwide aren't happy about Trump and although I didn't vote for our PM Malcolm Turnbull I agree it must be awful for him at the moment. I just read this: something about Trump's next EO target could be the LGBT by giving wider control to religious organisations. Wonder if that includes Scientology? With all of the negative revelations from former members lately, I think some were kind of hoping this 'philosophy' was on the way out. How come the 'thetan' rubbish they teach is a religion anyway?

Here is what I read about the LGBT

Robyn,

will miss chatting with you too

sending hugs and love to each of you who shared what you knew about Gerry with me

because I came late to liking Butler, in my cinematic heart he'll always be the Stranger in Dear Frankie and Johnny Donne in The Jury and yes, we will always have Sparta!

he just signed to do Snow Ponies- an action thriller sounds interesting....

Liam Neeson signed for Hard Powder another snow based film and Renner's Wind River is set against the snowy mountains of Wyoming- actually Utah where it was film-

geez what's with all the snow?? haha!!

Does anyone think perhaps Mr Trump could have anything to do with it? Supposedly some angst between him and the owner of Amazon or something? He does seem hyper sensitive to negative comments anywhere in public forums and hasn't there been mention that he wants to change libel laws or yes that had crossed my mind too. Telling the media to shut up seems very unpresidential

take care of yourself, be good, stay safe and see ya soon (at the cinema watching Butler making us happy indeed)
