Promotion of his projects

Does anyone else feel like Matt doesn't promote his own projects as much as he could? Like for instance, he could post pictures from TLT, or Sundance pics/reviews. He does a good job of promoting his friends/colleagues' projects.
He has a lot of following & pretty dedicated fans from all over the world if only he tweeted about himself & his projects more often.

My two cents is, No. I don't feel that way at all. I think his approach to self-promotion reflects who he is. When it is time to step up and promote a finished product he always seems to throw himself out there as needed.

I find Matt's use of Twitter to support colleagues, charities, professional obligations, those he respects etc. but not for self publicity endearing and true to character. Sure I'd like to see bits and pieces from set's, locations and behind the scenes but that isn't Matt's Twitter style. And where press junkets are concerned he works hard answering with grace often repetitive, inane questions.

Thanks for so eloquently expressing exactly what I was trying to say in my sparse comment on this subject. So well said and explained.

I remember when Matt was promoting Magic Mike. He was physically dwarfed by some of the bigger guys and doing what he seems to do ... not hog the spot light. A reporter asked him how it was competing with these guys, which I chuckled at because Matt was head and shoulders more talented and beautiful than any of his MM colleagues on that stage. He said something that stuck with me in response. He quoted Piggy, one of my favorite characters from Lord of the Flies. He said to effect sometimes he has to demand the conch and command attention.

Piggy symbolized wisdom, loyalty, compassion and an appreciation for the good of others and society in general ...the antithesis of self promotion. I agree with everyone that it's not in his character to draw attention to himself, even if it might help his career. He's still as somebody described him from college, the talented beautiful blue eyed boy standing in the back, that everybody couldn't take their eyes off.

I have never read that quote you posted regarding Matt in college. It sounds like a stanza in a poem. Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!!

Appreciate everyone's reply. I too love Matt's low key personality as reflected in his twitter. I like the fact that he doesn't "sell" himself desperately like so many so called stars today. From fake relationships, to fake controversies, or putting up selfies is something I find quite pathetic. On the other hand promoting one's own show/movies is something natural and kind of expected in today's day and age.

A low budget production like Walking Out needs as much publicity as it can get. Same with TLT.

Anyway, just my two cents. I'm sure Matt is very strategic in his approach towards his career. He can & will promote when the time comes I guess.

My concern comes from my ardent wish for his first movie as a lead to be a great success! Here's to hoping Walking Out gets tons of hype & is bought by a major distributor!

Hi Art

I think in this case, with him being the 'star' of a movie that is actively being shopped around and having the prestigious platform of Sundance, it is up to the directors and producers to deal with what is purely the business-end of the project to get a distributor.

TLT got oodles of promotion from Amazon when it debuted and Matt participated in all of it. It is just filming right now and not in a position to start hype quite yet.

I am just speaking from a layperson's viewpoint.

And it is sooo exciting for him to be carrying a film such as WO. Has me happy and nervousing at the time :o)

Art, I think all of us are on the same page and share your wish for Matt. We want him to get the recognition and attention he deserves and at times are nervousing about it.

Moonandynew, I don't know if nervousing is a word or your own creation, but I just added it to my favorites list.

While at Sundance to premiere his movie, the only tweets I could find from Matt were giving support to the Women's March and his donation to support the Stand up to Cancer foundation. That's our guy😘
