'Hides behind not wanting to change his accent'

I think he's just a *beep* actor and he can't change his accent. so he says that he doesn't care about changing his accent for a role and he never will

Or maybe he is sick of outsiders acting like southerners are socially and intellectually inferior and wants his roots to be clear in his success. The PC police have a fit over anything that could be the slightest bit offensive to nearly anyone in the world, but they have no problem thinking they are better than us when they have no understanding of our culture and no willingness or desire to learn. The moment they hear our accent they assume we are all racist morons. My first and second husbands were Army so I've lived in several states and residents of military bases come from all over the world. I am still amazed at the ignorant questions that started the second my accent was heard. It wasn't an issue with my first husband's coworkers; it was a very small unit and when you trust a man to cover your ass around live ordnance you don't doubt their intelligence or competence. The spouses became good friends because at any given time there are maybe a dozen for the unit. One happened to be a sociologist so it was easier for her to see past stereotypes, but when we first met she had no idea how complex southern culture really is or how many misconceptions there were because outsiders did not understand what they were seeing. My favorite has always been female oppression.

The plight and oppression of white Southerners. One of the saddest and darkest times in our country's history... (I'm from Tennessee, this rant was totally unnecessary.)

Film, is a communications business. It's visual --things have to look good-- and sound must be first rate and understandable. If viewers can't understand what's being said they can get frustrated pretty quickly.
Some American accents are difficult. If you can't adjust you are going to lose jobs and limit your career. That would be pretty stupid if you've got talent and can work consistently.

I never had a problem with his accent. He probably wonders why he should be forced to change his dialect to a Northern one in order to work.

While not a superstar, Black has had a good career, first in films and then in a long-running TV show. Now that he's quit the show, I presume we'll see him in more films.

He's appeared--whether as lead or supporting--in several good, high-profile movies. Get Low is excellent and I liked him in Tokyo Drift as well. Seven Days in Utopia may be a bit too schmaltzy for a lot of people but I liked that one as well.

Lucas Black at least is a recognizable face with a recognizable way of speaking. He doesn't get lost in the shuffle as just one of hundreds of generic actors.
