Hunter and his uncle, Joe Biden's brother James, tried putting together a business with some Chinese partners but the deal ultimately fell through. Doing business in China is not a crime. Nor was Joe ever involved and his tax records back that up. If there was anything genuinely incriminating you can bet Trump's little lapdog Billy Barr would've been all over it.
Not that he'd have been wrong to do it, if there was legitimate cause. My problem with Republicans is the hypocrisy where they tolerate massive corruption on their side of the aisle but pursue with the tenacity of a rabid pit bull any hint of malfeasance among Democrats - to the point where they can spend years and multiple inquiries looking into allegations that ultimately prove unfounded. Although they'll never come out and admit they were wrong. Perish the thought! They just sorta close the case and innocently walk away whistling.
First of all, Hunter Biden was never running for President (or any other public office). Secondly, while he may have thrown around his dad's name in Ukraine there is no indication he ever enlisted his father's aid directly in getting onto that board. Certainly Joe Biden would've left that old prosecutor in place if he was trying to protect his son from prosecution. He was dirty - one of the things he did was look the other way, if his palm was properly greased. Why would you replace a guy like that with an ethical prosecutor you couldn't pay off, if the goal was to block an investigation of someone close to you?
Made up allegations, against the tsunami of corruption in the Trump administration that was no big deal. Right? Jimmy Carter had to sell his little fucking peanut farm before taking the Oval Office, to eliminate any possible conflict of interest. Meanwhile the whole Trump family (yes it's Nepotism R Us, folks!) was open for business in the White House. Donald Trump used his office every way he could to shovel money into his own pocket. US foreign policy decisions were being made based on what was good for Trump's financial interests. Either that or they had no rhyme or reason to them whatsoever, take your pick. It's just amazing how often decisions no one else agreed with just so happened to make money for Trump and his family!
Can you imagine the meltdown Republicans would have if Joe Biden was shooting off his mouth and revealing classified information provided by allies to the Russians, or the Chinese? My god. Tucker Carlson's hair would catch on fire. Senators would be demanding, not asking, that Kamala Harris invoke the 25th amendment and remove Uncle Joe, who was clearly not firing on all cylinders and needed to go. Trump does it though? Nothing but crickets.
Especially after the last four years I'm going to be ignoring the phony outrage whenever the GOP side complains about the conduct of a Democrat. Just like they care about deficits only when there's a D in the Oval Office, they only care about ethics and the rule of law when it's the other guys being held to those standards.
