I'm Torn

I like Biden as a person. More importantly, he is the best-polling candidate in a head-to-head against Trump. Plus, he's the candidate most likely to get the support of so-called Blue Dog Democrats and rustbelt voters who didn't back the DNC in 2016 and thus lost it the EC. Moreover, apart from Warren and her calls for impeachment, he's the one candidate talking about Trump rather than amongst ourselves. He knows who the enemy is.

A black and/or female and/or gay candidate would be nice, but only if they can win. And until we can be sure of that, it's no good indulging our ideals and wish fulfilment fantasies. If the electorate is not yet fully in board with diverse candidates we may have to win them over via stealth. For what it's worth, I think a black and/or female DNC candidate would win in 2024, but not necessarily against an incumbent right now, but do we want to wait for another four more years of this utter abomination of a President? Besides, Biden could, and should, appoint a diverse running mate/VP.

All that said, I'm a left-wing progressive. I want major reform on economic and defence policy, which is anathema to Biden's wing of the party. And we need to take a zero tolerance stance with respect to MeToo allegations.

What do you mean by "zero tolerance stance with respect to MeToo allegations"? Are you suggesting prosecution or conviction based on accusation?

reply

No, I'm simply saying we shouldn't allow any of it to slide.

That doesn't mean we take every accusation at face-value and we suspend the presumption of innocence, although I don't believe Biden has denied anything. I get the impression that he accepts the validity of the accusations made against him.

Thanks for the clarification.
