Becoming more and more arrogant!

I used to really like this guy but he has become so arrogant and pretentious i can't stand listening to him anymore in interviews. Also, he turned down the role in Masters and Sex because he didn't think Lizzy Caplan was famous enough. Like Paul Bettany is a name that everyone knows. He is not even grateful for the business that has given him so much. He complains that when his wife is asked to pose for a magazine cover she has to look sexy and available, but yet it's okay for him to pose with a cancer stick in his hand and the smoke all around him. Yeah, that is original. What message is he going for there? That it looks cool to smoke? I would rather have a woman look like a slut than a man with cigarette in his hand making it look like there is nothing wrong with it. I can't respect this guy as an actor or as a man anymore. Hopefully he will get his ego in check and realize how fortunate he is. BTW, he burned some bridges over at Showtime. When the president of Showtime announced that Bettany was going to be replaced with Michael Sheen he said, "We traded up!" What a slap in his face. Sheen is a great actor but if Bettany walked away with grace Showtimes President would have no reason to say that. Obviously, Bettany is difficult to work with and lets his ego get in the way of becoming a great actor. He is replaceable. One more thing, Lizzy Caplan is the best thing on that show and is being universally praised. Good for her and good for Showtime for telling Bettany to go away!

I agree. I find him offensive, annoying, bizarre and question why he gets cast. Masters & Sex - the show would have been horrible without her.

Oh wow. As if he could have pulled off Masters. NOT! Oh later hell whine that he should have taken it like he says he should have done The King's Speech, which e old have flopped with him in the part.

This is what a pretentious jerk looks like:

He has that stupid scarf like "look at me, i am a director now!" He uses words like taciturn when all he has to say is a person was quiet or didn't talk. It's like he is so insecure that he tries to make himself sound and look smarter than he really is. Oh and he wants more affordable housing in NYC. I bet he doesn't want it in his neighborhood. Who would want people who live in affordable housing to live next to them? The crime rate goes up and the value of your property goes down. In the suburbs everyone knows, don't live next to an apartment complex. Look at how nice and down to earth he was early in his career and how pretentious he has become now. He has turned into a Hollywood snob.

You assume a whole lot don't you? What's ironic is that your comment make you come off as the one who's prejudicious against people of lower income, not Bettany.

Also, I can't for the life of me understand how you can read so much into someone wearing a scarf, or why you think that someone with a good vocabulary must be insecure. I don't like the look of scarves either but I don't assume that all people wearing them are pretentious jerks, and as for the whole thing about you being bothered by his choice of words… why are you so fazed by someone using a certain word? Does it make you feel insecure? It shouldn't.

i have a masters in neuroscience so no I don't feel insecure. My point was that he comes across as a very pretentious person in his looks and actions. If you want to call me racist I don't care. I am secure enough to be at peace with myself and know that I am not. It is a fact that with low income housing comes an increase in crime. You can argue it if you want but the facts are the facts.

People in England differ from Americans. They speak proper English and are just raised differently than they are in the U.S., or anywhere else for that matter. It's better than the scores of Americans that now think they're the center of the universe and have a disgusting sense of entitlement and think they know everything about a complete stranger from an interview. Thanks to reality TV people think they know everything about a famous person from one fricking interview, and also think they're entitled to know everything about their lives.
