Why so many bad films?

For such a good actor, Paul Bettany has been in an extraordinary amount of bad films in recent years. The recent Avengers film was ok, but other than that the last good film he was in was Margin Call in 2011! (I'm not including him being the voice of Jarvis in the Iron Man films) Does he just have a really bad agent???

His domestic life explains a lot of choices; he works around Jennifer and vice versa to look after the children and provide a decent income. Also he's Stateside and it's a reflection of films there that he either makes small budget films offering a small salary or blockbusters that are rubbish but pay for the family. It's the same for his wife Jennifer. Both are wasted in America. He turned down The King's Speech because of other commitments if I recall rightly so does get some good offers, however occasional, but can't take them. Blood seemed on paper a good choice with mainstream appeal but the script was too cliched and his desire to work with Stephen Graham cost the film. His looks seem to negate him playing many leading roles in American films too.

He's one of my favourite actors but there's so few recent films with him that I can bear to watch.

That makes a lot of sense. I didn't know that he was offered The King's Speech! That must have been gutting for him when it got all the acclaim it did.

Sorry but the movies he has done has been great. And for one I was so happy to see am actor stand up for his religion. Faith teaches us weather you realize it or not that tomorrow in life or death we are loved and taken care of,but that does not come with a little faith on our part. I love Paul Bettany's movies but one thing that drew me to him was his zest for these roles. I may be a Christian and pray to God as to why this is happening but I do know that I am not alone. I have my sins and I am still a work in progress but I know I am not alone just as my daughter,no matter what she does is never alone. God's love for me is like me for her. No matter what she does I am here, as God is for me. I pray that this is a misunderstanding in the tabloids because my fault has looked at Paul Bettany as someone to stand up for religion without being a huge zealot. God's love has a purpose for us all. No matter how small or great. It all plays a role.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. He's an atheist and rather vocal about it.

He's already said plenty of times he'd rather do a ton of different roles for the interest than the same thing over and over just because it is likely to be successful. Seems to put his family before his career as well, so fair play to him.

You know what, I don't even mind the bad movies. I like them as well. I mean I always skip to the parts with him so I'm never really that disappointing in the movies.

And I can understand the appeal of taking different roles, more thsn always sticking to the same character type. I think it makes a person more interesting if he's daring to try out different aspects.
