I've personally thought most of the Besser era episodes of the Three Stooges were a huge relief to most of the late Shemp era episodes that were recycled films from his earlier episodes because it breathed new life to the Three Stooges episodes and most of them didn't rely on over 50% stock footage in order for them to make an episode.

I agree, MF, but, he had that one thing that he did really well. It was a stutter, or, some damn thing that I can't recall. Made him serviceable.
shareI've thought it was good seeing many stooge shorts with all original footage in at least half of the Joe Besser shorts and that was something you've rarely gotten to see during the later Shemp era, of course the best Besser shorts don't match up to the good/average Shemp shorts.
shareI also don't understand the hatred people have towards Joe Besser? If Shemp hadn't died they might as well do remakes off of Stooge shorts released in 1950-51 and that is something I wouldn't have wanted to see.
shareThe trouble people had with Joe Besser is that he didn't feel he fit in with the Stooges physical comedy demands and would constantly refuse to do things he considered too extreme. The result was it gave the stooges a much tamer format.
