Just until recently I had forgotten that Dirk Benedict was not in the A-Team pilot episode and was wondering why the other guy who played Face was out after one episode and how they found Dirk to come in and play the role.
Dirk Benedict is the best and only he could have done that character so well.

If I'm not mistaken, the "Face" character was actually written for him (as was Starbuck - if memory serves me correctly). The PTB didn't want him for Face so they got the other guy. However, after the first show, they realized the 1st "Face" looked too young to play the role of a Vietnam vet (again, from what I've heard in the past) so the PTB caved and let Dirk come aboard.:-)
He was actually afraid of the Face name. said it sounded somewhat vain for person to go around being called Face. But I guess it grew on him.
shareThe reason they let the first Face go, because he was too tall and too young. He was hurt they let him go. Dirk Benedict is the best faceman, he wasn't too tall and not young, just right.
