Does he have an accent?

I know he's from London and what not. And I was watching Snowpiercer last night and I noticed that he had a Gordie accent, which is an accent that is from Northern England. Is that like his real life accent? Oh,and then in Jumper, he's got a London-ish accent. So does he change his voice every time he does a movie or am I just going *beep* crazy?

reply

No, you are not crazy--Jamie is frequently changing-up his voice and his accent, depending on the role. I actually think he has quite an ear for accents--Man on a Ledge and Undertow, for instance, are a far-cry from his Billy Elliot days! And on TURN, he plays with a more Irish-Americanish sound (as he explained in an interview with Apple he did in NYC earlier this year). I think accents must be one of his ways of becoming the character and, thankfully, he pulls them off extremely convincingly.

Thank you for pointing that out. I really liked him in Jumper, which I thought was the only good thing about that movie. He's a great actor and it's sad he doesn't get more movie roles. Plus is TURN any good?

reply

I agree--he was great in Jumper and it is a pity that the one or two sequels the filmmakers had originally planned did not happen.

I've admired Jamie's work since Billy Elliot, but his role as Smike in Nicholas Nickleby is what has really solidified by admiration. I think he is selective about what he takes and likes the challenge of playing new roles. I never get the sense that he is in this for the fame or notoriety. I would like to see him in some more Blockbuster-y roles, though; it is a pity Fantastic Four was so poorly-written and that Jamie was underused (to the extent that his voice for The Thing was a horrible parody of him, really).

I love TURN: Washington's Spies. I am not much of a television watcher but it is a show I have watched religiously (and even bought it twice--once digitally and once on Blu-Ray). I am a fan of the book upon which it is based (Washington's Spies by Alexander Rose) and it's really well-acted, designed, and written. Season three should be filming now or shortly--so, you have time to catch up with the first two seasons!

I blame the ending and the chemistry between Hayden and Rachel was piss poor! If you ask me, I want to see a Griffin prequel because he was pretty like able and cool! And thank god I'm not the only one who refuses to watch Fantastic Four, wait excuse me, LAMEtastic Four

A Griffin spin-off would be awesome--yes, yes, yes!

There's a prequel of the book written. I seriously would like it if Jamie got back in the role or something like that.

reply

Yes, I cannot really picture anyone else in the role. I'm sure they could find a way for him to resume it.

I just hope the next picture he makes is something worthy of his talents. In the meantime, I'll enjoy every minute of Season 3 of TURN: Washington's Spies when it returns!
