He's a pretty bland director

This is not a criticism of the writing or characters to his films, though there's plenty of issues there, but as a filmmaker he really doesn't do a whole lot behind the camera or gets much from his cast or crew. He doesn't do anything unique with his shot selection, staging, or sound to his films and just places the camera statically getting very basic shots of his acting talent. At best, his style of filmmaking could be described as "lightly-edited improv."

Why the lack of creativity?

Aaah, sounds to me like you've been watching Every Frame A Painting ;) But Honestly though, I also wish he would show more flare as a director. He also needs to cut his movies down. Is there any need for Funny People to be 2 1/2 hours long? It's like he's afraid to cut any potential gold from his talent. Maybe if he focused more on script and less on encouraging improv that wouldn't happen.

He almost always makes the same movie. The only good one he was involved with was the cable guy which was some what of a commentary of men in crisis.

I don't support his work
