How is this guy not the next jason statham by now??

i dont get it he is a total badass like statham but still has all his hair! so why is he in all these low budget movies and not making huge action movies he has what it takes to be the next big action star.

Statham was in the right place at the right time and got a lucky break by Luc Besson. Just like Bruce Willis with Die Hard and Vin Diesel with Pitch Black.

He might have more success by doing the following;

Arnold Schwarzenegger was independently wealthy when he set out to become a star, thus giving him the freedom to select and audition for the projects he wanted to.

Stallone created his own project from scratch and suffered to make it.

Dolph Lundgren piggy backed on other stars projects.

SIEG BOLL!

Adkins is ok but he doesn't seem to have that funny personality where he could deliver that comedic one liner that most other action stars can deliver...which makes him less desirable for big budget movie would be my guess...doesn't have enough screen presence to be a big star...good fights scenes but also nothing new about them...and what the other person said is also true...right place and right timing make a big difference...or just luck.

Recently saw both The Gringo and Assassination Games and the fellow is ok but does not have the charisma to be the main focus for 90 or 120minutes.

I agree...he isn't the worst but just can't carry a movie on his own.

That's probably why he mostly appears with bigger names like Jean Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, and Michael Jai White. As soon as he does enough of that, he'll be just as big as they are on his own...which should be real soon if you ask me.

Knawmean?!

reply

Nah...I get what your saying but kinda doubt it. He'll only make it if he gets lucky at this point.

He's got way more charisma than Jason Statham or JCVD, but he just hasn't had the right roles to play. Half the time he's cast as a Russian 'bad guy', so how is he supposed to show any personality or acting ability?

Just look at Michael Jai White, for example. The guy can clearly act and has tons of personality. Yet he's in his mid-40s and most people still don't know who he is. And when he's been cast as the bad dude (eg in a JCVD movie) he looks just as terrible as every other bad guy.

In Hollywood it's all about who you know. Scott Adkins just needs a breakthrough role. I think the 'Undisputed' series may have helped (18+ million views on Youtube), but it may be too little, too late.
