Jensen, the surname

Jensen is the most common surname in Denmark. Also very common in Norway. It means "Son of Jens".

Soldiers of Denmark were often called "Jens'er", like "Joe's" in the US, or "Ivan's" in Russia.

Just a funny perspective!

For instance, the most common Polish last name is Kowalski, where "ski" means "Son of", but Kowal means smith, so it mean's Smith's Son.

Jensen is also the name of a restaurant chain and a company that makes beds.  The thought of eating Jensen's ribs always makes me giggle a bit 

Jens (not Jen) is the danish version of John (or Johannes). Other northeuropean versions of Johannes is Hans and Johan.

I don't remember the hebrew meaning of John, but you can google it.

We have a big chain in Denmark called Jensens Beefhouse, but they are currently very unpopular, because they sued a private business owner for using the (very common) name Jensen for his fish restaurant.

That's the restaurant chain I was referring to, there are a few of them in Sweden as well (I was gonna write Bøfhus, but I couldn't make the Danish "ö" so I skipped it, success now though ).

I hadn't heard about them sueing but that's ridiculous. Did they drop it when they realised how it impacted their popularity?

Not as far as I remember. I think they expect people to forget, wich they probably will...

Edit june 18th 2015:
Peoples reaction to the case has caused a major loss in business.
According to an article, that IMDb will not allow me to link to, they are over 4 million $ in deficit, due to the case.
