His movies are mostly mediocre, I wouldn't rate any of them higher than a 5.

He has a whimsical Spielberg flare. I like his films, and his use of comedy in them is good too.

Force Awakens was a brilliant film

It doesn't matter if it's a whimsical flare or a deliberate imitation, he hasn't yet shown he can stand on his own two feet as a filmmaker. He exudes the naive charisma of a guy fresh out of film school, except that he's over 50 years old.

Spielberg is one of the top directors of all time - a genius. His legacy was deeply set in stone by the time he was 50. Abrams is a pretender.

He makes money though. Gotta give him that.

I haven't seen much of Lost or Alias, but I know that the pilot of Lost is at least good while the series as a whole is a complete mess. He is a fine director honestly, as well as producer, executive producer or showrunner, a fine individual too. It's the writing where his defects are most seen. He is not as talented as Steven Spielberg. FN-2187 is the worst character ever created by Abrams.

Lost isn't a movie
