If Portia had always looked more like Ellen, would people have shut up?

Seriously, all these ridiculous arguments on here. Why is it so damn hard for some people to realize that the way a person looks, walks, talks, dresses, acts, ect. has absolutely nothing to do with who you are attracted to. You can be a manly gay man, a femme gay woman, a butch straight woman, or an effeminate straight guy. It doesn't matter. But because Portia is so beautiful, some people just CANNOT believe that she could possibly be gay. It's ridiculous! And people actually go crazy on here. It's scary to think that so many people are just so ignorant when it comes to homosexuality.

Unfortunately however, I guess in some ways it's not so surprising that some people think that way, since the media has basically brainwashed society with stereotypes on how a straight/gay/bi/other person is "suppose" to be. So, let's say that Portia has always looked similar to Ellen. Let's say she's always had short hair, never wears dresses, but vests and ties, and was just in general the "stereotype" of the gay female look; do you think people on these boards would be much more quiet? Would some people (some straight men) be not as "threatened"? Would everyone then just shut up about the subject?

good post. these people probably just have nothing better to do. am I surprised that she's a lesbian? absolutely, but I've accepted that I can't get anywhere with her (being a guy and all) and have moved on.

Even gorgeous women can dislike, and / or be uninterested in men for romantic purposes. Get over it.

Exactly arunsah. It truly cracks me up when some straight people get upset about their favorite celebrities being gay, and it's like, "do you really think you were somehow going to meet them anyway? And even if you did, obviously nothing would happen."
So yeah, it's good that you are mature about it. There are PLENTY of hot straight women out there.

I don't blame them.

I think there should be more feminine lesbians, or at least more feminine women coming out as gay - Could they be all around us but still in the closet?

I have encountered masculine (or regular acting) gay men more often, but lesbians are just either in between butch and femme (boyish) or masculine.
