Jane Wagner: Genius Extraordinaire

While I'm at it, I must pay tribute to Ms. Wagner. After watching Lily eerily, beautifully transform herself (in ways that 99.9999% of so-called actors aren't even capable of doing) in "The Search", I found myself profoundly stunned, and I just absolutely ACHED to know more about those characters, if at all possible. So I ordered the book, and as cliché as this will sound, it changed me and, hopefully, my life. Jane wrote so many things...things I've thought but never knew other people thought...as well as things most of us DO think but no one dared write...etc. (I closed the book thinking "So THIS is what it feels like to have my experiences finally VALIDATED!") My general attitude and even my lifestyle have been altered since experiencing "The Search" - even my therapist and some of my friends have taken noticed.

I love love LOVE their commentaries together (and especially that M.I.T. INTERVIEW, OMG!) on "The Search" DVD - the extras are almost better than the movie! I am wondering, are there any rare(-ish) photographs of those two floating around? I mean obviously there are photos of them arriving together here and there, but I mean...were there ever any like professional/studio photo shoots of those two back in the day? I keep imagining how beautiful it would be to come across some poignant, loving black-and-white portrait of them, à la Leibovitz or perhaps Mapplethorpe. I would think there just HAD to be a photographer or journalist who was as fascinated by the brilliant dynamic of this lovely duo as many of us are...!

I see now why Lily was and still is SO captivated by her. (Hell, Lily probably wouldn't be half the goddess she is without Jane's pen...and I admire that she has no problem acknowledging this profusely). To think, if it weren't for Lily friggin' Tomlin, I'd have never known who Jane Wagner is. I shudder to imagine...
