My god she was amazing on Season 5 of 24! It is a true master performance even if the show is a bit ridiculous (I love it so don't hate...). I loved seeing a female character who was so strong and deeply moral, but who thought of herself as weak because everyone around her undermined her. She was far more interesting in this kind of role than Ingrid Bergman was in Gaslight (though I love that movie as well)!

shareI'm super late to this but I just saw her on 24 and noticed how amazing she was.
shareI've never seen "24". However, I've seen "Gaslight" at least 200 times, literally. I adore the film, and find Bergman ' s performance to be absolutely brilliant. Her face alone, with no words, spoke volumes, especially when her character was really losing it.
I now want to see Jean Smart in this "24" role, to see what you're talking about.
