UNBELIEVABLE in The Americans last night...

Both Keri and Matthew Rhys are amazing in this show, but I only just remembered how many layers there are to Keri's performance. She can be ruthless, intimidating (despite her small stature), and then adorably loving and sympathetic in the very next scene. It's a lot of emotions for a single character, and she rotates between them effortlessly.

The scene in last night's episode where she recounts her rape story to the Navy guy was flawless acting. She's using this story to gain his pity and get to someone else. She's playing with him as nothing more than a tool for the operation. But somehow, her delivery makes you feel shocked and sad for this partially fabricated story, wishing you could comfort her as well. It's a hoax, but you forget it when she's telling it.

You know an actor's good when he/she actually fools the viewer, who KNOWS he/she is lying. Keri Russell is seriously giving Claire Danes a run for her money as the best actress on TV right now. Can anyone say Emmy?

I can't wait to see Keri in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes now. With her, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Andy Serkis, that is shaping up to be an unbelievable cast.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the best movie of all time.

Just raced through both seasons of The Americans, and I have to agree that Keri Russell is very impressive. So is Matthew Rhys, for that matter.

But you do realize that the reason Elizabeth is able to sell her story so well is because she actually was raped back in the USSR by her training commander. It was revealed in flashbacks in season 1.

As an audience we feel the weight of her pain because it's real, even though the circumstances of this conversation is totally strategic.
