Guy Ritchie vs Matthew Vaughn

Who do you think is the better director between the 2?

reply

They are both two of the worst directors of all time.

reply

Uwe Boll is better.

reply

They're both interchangeable, but neither of them are that brilliant as directors. Looking at both of their body of work they come across as derivative genre mixers trying to IMP Quentin Tarantino.

reply

Other than a stylized way of directing, I don't see a lot of similarities to QT, or even an attempt to be similar.

reply

It's their over-stylized directing that makes their work appear like Tarantino-lite.

Vaughn's "Layer Cake" was more subtle and I actually like it a lot, but his later works seem to regress back to over-stylized meta-action movies.

reply

Matthew Vaughn.

reply

They both do things that I like to see in action movies, but other than a few of their movies, they are often only "OK" to "shitty"

reply

Is this really a question? Matthew Vaughn has had a proven track record now of making films that are both financially profitable and critically successful. With the exception of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Vaughn is one of the very few filmmakers working today who can make big-budget studio fare that wins the hearts of both critics and audiences alike, all while retaining a distinct directorial touch to his work. Guy Ritchie made one successful indie flick, then remade it the next year with a bigger budget, only to follow up by making mostly nothing but flops and disappointments for the rest of his career. Vaughn is clearly the more talented filmmaker.

reply

I think Guy Ritchie's good movies outweigh Matthew Vaughn's good ones.

Guy Ritchie:
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
RocknRolla
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes 2
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
The Gentlemen
Wrath of Man

Matthew Vaughn:
Layer Cake
Kick-Ass
Stardust
X-Men: First Class
Kingsman

reply

I preferred Richie's movies.

reply

reply
