Instead he gave us Jake Lloyd.
He was horrible in Phantom Menace even worse than Jar Jar Binks!
I don't think Osment could have saved that piece of rubbish. The bad writing and direction is what brought the worst out in the entire cast. Even Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman weren't that great, but they went on to do better projects.
