Elisabeth Moss: One Of The Best Actresses Of Our Generation?

If 2014 has shown the movie community anything, it’s that Elisabeth Moss is indeed one of the best actresses of our generation. Some actors/actresses may suffer adjusting to post hit TV show life, but Moss has thrived.

This year she’s starred in The One I Love, which is a thought-provoking Spike Jonze like romantic dramedy and Listen Up Philip, which is a Coen Brothersesque movie that brilliantly serves as a character study of inherently unlikeable people.

She’s just finished filming High Rise, a movie directed by one of Britain’s finest directors Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Kill List etc) and starring Tom Hiddleton, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller and Luke Evans. Moss is scheduled to star in an impressive variety of genre (drama, comedy, horror, biopic) movies like Meadowland, Queen of Earth and There Be Monsters and has just booked her most prestigious gig of all, by being cast in upcoming movie Truth. The movie is based on a real life political scandal and stars screen legends Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett. If Moss is indeed going to be cast in the second season of True Detective, then that would be the icing on an incredible cake.

So even though I’ve known for years from her performances in Mad Men, Top of the Lake, The West Wing and Get Him To The Greek that Moss is a unique talent, it’s nice to see that Hollywood and movie fans are starting to realise this now.

"Best" is a designation besmirched by the twin burdens of loftiness and nebulousness; anyone being shuffled through such a door is a roll of the dice inherently subject to much questioning. She's nonetheless proved compelling throughout Mad Men's trajectory and looked cute on that Excedrin commercial. Haven't seen Top of the Lake yet, and yes I'm aware she's nude in it.

watching top of the lake at the moment and so far i think she absolutely sucks! not seen her in anything else before so maybe i'll have to check out some other stuff before i write her off completely but seriously i'm hating her acting so far.
