Business Trip

My God another supporting role! I really can't believe how little this man and his agent believe in himself and him.
Not following you Mr. Marsden anymore, big big step backwards with 2 Guns. Then Welcome to me and now Business Trip.
He films 4 movies per year and he's in each of them for like 5 mins. I'm not going to see any of these. Just find a movie per year, just one and be the central character!

I'm wondering if he has lost all confidence in himself - if he ever had any in the first place.

I don't blame you, Mau. I saw The Butler, however, and none of the "presidents" get any real screen time. It's still a feather in his cap that he was in that film. There was a mini-series on TV on the Kennedy family within the last year or so, and JFK was played by Greg Kinear, who does resemble Kennedy after a couple of years in the White House, and especially after being on steroids for his Addison's disease.

That is by no means meant to be an insult to Kinear - his face just has a fuller aspect, and JM's is lean and bony.
Lee Daniels said he wanted the younger, more slender, thin-faced Kennedy, who entered the Presidency full of hope and charisma, where 99.99% of Americans did not know the man behind the handsome good looks.
Someone also said Marsden looks more like Robert Kennedy, but I didn't see any footage of RFK in the film.
I'll be seeing it again on Wednesday (I saw it this past Friday morning and the theater was packed at 10:30 a.m. - amazing).
This high exposure has got to be a good thing and I'm still trying to be patient. It's not easy.

Also the Will Ferrell movies; he seems to have gotten a foot in the door there. This new one: I don't know if he'll have more than 10 or 15 minutes in it. I haven't seen any information on his part, and perhaps the whole thing is still in the rumor stage.

2 Guns is more of the same - a chance to be in the same company as 2 big screen icons. Marsden was in and out, there.
I would think there'd be no more of him, and - there he was . Unfortunately, if there's a sequel, he won't be in it. :-(

The other thing I'm thinking that in Hollywood, networking seems to be the name of the career game. Someone sees an actor in something and casts him in something else - the actor makes friends on set with director, influential actors, and gets cast in yet something else.

I wonder who directs his career- anyone? - is there a plan, or is it just this haphazard cluster/path of drama--comedy--comedy--drama--?

I haven't seen any of his new movies yet. I would like to see how he portrayed JFK. I heard he did a good job.

I have also noticed that he has been getting more out there with Will Ferrel and this could be a good thing. I like James as any role he portrays, comedy, drama, action.

He still is my favorite and I still have a lot of respect for him no matter how popular he gets or doesn't get. He seems like a well rounded guy that isn't haughty like most actors and maybe that is one reason why he doesn't get bigger roles, I don't know.

He seems to be happy and just enjoying himself and thats what he cares about. Maybe he doesn't want to be huge, hes just content with what he has.

Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to see him play bigger roles and be the main character in his movies. Thats why I love some of his older films because he does get bigger screen time.

Maybe he doesn't think he deserves the bigger roles or no one sees the potential we truly see in him. He is an amazing actor, singer, and guy all around and thats why I like him so much. I wish him the best in his career and his life. I would love to see more of him but I also want to see him doing what he loves.

Maybe I am not making sense and just rambling off. I want to see more of him and I hope he does do bigger roles but either way I still like him.

Best of luck to you James!

You've spoken well, hih-funinthesun. I want nothing but the best for him.

But I see actors in roles that I think he could do much better. Some of these role are dramatic; some comedic.
If he had more clout, or whatever, he might have had those roles - or may yet be cast for roles that would really suit him.

Example: I think Jim Carrey has lost his edge. I liked him in Mr. Popper's Penguins but I think James Marsden could have even been better in that role.

I don't know what he's done in Anchorman 2, Walk of Shame, or Endangered (the one about the grizzly bear menacing his character and others). Some of these films languish, perhaps, because his box office appeal is not as strong as that of other actors. I can't imagine, for example, a film like Loft having trouble getting U.S. release if a Brad Pitt or Bradley Cooper or some other of the "favored ones" were in it.

--I'd love to see him in 50 Shades of Grey.
--I wish someone would do something with the Michael Connelly novels about his detective Hieronymous Bosch. James Marsden fits the written description of Bosch in those novels. Also, Connelly has also written about a Mickey Haller, a lawyer (The Lincoln Lawyer). and there are novels with both characters in them. Matthew Maconnaghy (spelling?) and Marsden resemble each other a bit - and these two characters are half-brothers.

Oh I have no doubt he could do much better than many of those so called talented actors. I think he IS one of the best actors and can portray anything that is asked of him. He's amazing! I do wish he would see that in himself as well. If that will happen or not is in his hands.

Like I have said before I do wish him the best in whatever direction it takes him and I hope for those of us who absolutely thinks he is amazing and very talented that we will get to see more of his talent shine through!

One thing that I have noticed that I am impressed with that I have never heard talked about but I would like to bring up is... Have you ever noticed his facial expressions as Cyclops? Even with the visor you can see how connected he is with his character and that his facial expressions and acting is simply amazing! I do love him as Cyclops I have to admit. Not very impressed by the films and the way he was short ended but I thought he made the perfect Cyclops, just want to see him more as the leader and badass. I know he could pull it off! Just my two bits on that one.

I am also excited and hopeful for the movie Endangered. My fingers are crossed for that one!

Just to find out more about it, I went surfing, looking for Business Trip.

Here's what I found:

Premise/plot: "the basic plot synopsis of the film is that Vince Vaughn is playing an American businessman who goes overseas on a business trip and finds that what should have been a routine excursion soon goes off the rails and gets put on a collision course with wackiness. That brings to mind all sorts of supporting roles that either could be a good fit for. Annoying plane passenger, smarmy business executive, wacky local drunk… the possibilities are basically endless.

"Likely we’ll have a better idea of what to expect out of Business Trip when Scott and Vaughn’s first collaboration, Delivery Man, hits theaters this November. If that similarly generic-sounding movie manages to defy expectations and provide some laughs, then Frost and Marsden’s casting here will be a sure sign that we could be in for something good. If it’s as bad as most of us are probably expecting, then not even the comedic might of a Nick Frost will likely be able to do much to avoid our scorn. Until then, the world waits." I'm assuming it's a comedy.

Judd Apatow is one of the producers. I've only known him in the realm of comedy.

If Marsden gets a part in this, it will be very good for him. Apatow has a lot of clout in the business of comedy, and in films in general, and he has been known to use the same actors for different films if he likes them.

I think "Business Trip" has been re-title as "Business or Pleasure."

Even though Marsden bounces from drama to action/adventure to comedy, I think he takes parts that look good and have good potential. I think this will make 3 comedies in a row for him, but that's all right -- right?
