Gyllenhaal was to hollow there was no emotion in her performance in TDK while Holmes was excellent as Rachel she played the character with full of life. You cared for her while with Gyllenhaal was really hollow so it was impossible to be sad when Rachel died when Gyllenhaal was her.
If Holmes had been Rachel in TDK you would actually feel sad like Bruce did when she died

She made me hate Rachel.I feel that if Katie had done TDK, you could at least sympathize with her for acting the way she did and choosing Harvey. Plus Katie is more likeable. She didn't even have chemistry with Bale, she seemed like a nagging older sister.
I bet Katie regrets it now. She could have been part of an awesome franchise and it could have helped her career.
