Unless he intentionally picks movies that won't put him into the "mainstream", he seems like a wasted talent.

I heard once that movie stars possess at least one of two qualities: either they are attractive or they are unique/interesting. To expand on this, I think the most famous actors aren't solely in that position due to talent, but due to what is behind their eyes: soul, complexity, intellect, goodness... maybe even pain. things that cannot be expressed through dialogue.
Anyhow, I believe Wes Bentley has both the looks and the uniqueness. And I'd guess that in terms of sheer brain power, he sits among the smallest percentile of actors.
American Beauty was a hit: Best Picture winner, and seemingly adored by the majority of fans and critics. Everyone remembers Ricky-- but do they know it was Wes Bentley?
The Hunger Games is a hit in a different sense. And Wes makes his presence felt in the films-- culminating with what I believe is the most intense and memorable moment of the whole series. But who knows it is Wes Bentley? I didn't, until I looked up his name tonight.
He is sharp, interesting, magnetic, and mysterious. And while he may not compete with the Chris Hemsworth's of the world in terms of sheer sex appeal, if you saw Bentley walking down the street you'd think "that is one handsome *beep*

When I saw Interstellar I was like whoa who is this most beautiful man? I looked up the cast on the Internet and it was Wes Bentley.
How can this man not already been in movies yet? I thought. Didn't even realize that he was in American Beauty.
