Used to to be one of my favorite directors but he misfired with black swan and Noah was a disaster. He used to make such good movies, now I have my doubts

shareIf a movie like Noah isn't really your thing then it would be a disaster. It's not usually my type either but I really liked it. It's very different to Black Swan, and Black Swan is very different to The Wrestler (despite dealing with similar themes). He's always trying new things.
shareI liked Black Swan quite a bit but Noah was definitely a misfire. Let's see what he has left up his sleeve. My suspicion is he's become a bit more jaded and cynical and doesn't have the same passion/drive for film that he once had. But this is purely speculative, I have zero reason to feel this way honestly.
shareMaybe you didn't like it, but it was nominated for an Oscar and so was Aronofsky. Black Swan also won at least one (that I recall) -- for Portman as Best Actress.
Hundreds of movies are made in Hollywood every year but only five get nominations. So I think while you are entitled to your opinion, it's sort of in the minority.
Of course he hasn't made a good film since 2008. He no longer has Satoshi Kon to rip off.
