Why Hollywood won't cast Jessica Alba anymore

Back in the mid-2000s, Jessica Alba was poised for superstardom. She was unequivocally gorgeous onscreen, even in unforgiving superhero spandex. She'd proven her range with an attention-getting role in the gritty prestige flick Sin City; and she took approximately five minutes to bounce back into camera-ready condition after giving birth to her daughter, which has to be some kind of record. Yet by 2010, Alba had all but disappeared from Hollywood. Here's why.

reply

She'll always be the genetically engineered superhuman warrior Max Guevera in Dark Angel to me.

reply

True, her core fans were always the Dark Angel fans. She never made anything comparable and she never played that kind of "outsider" role again. She was kind of an outsider in An Invisible Sign - but that was obviously a different kind of outsider and not a mainstream movie.

same here.

I suspect that Jessica Alba's problem in large part is because when you really think about it, does she really have any iconic big screen roles or just good movies that she did. I want to say her turn as Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movies from the 2000s or Sin City but that's about it.

reply

I never saw her as poised for super stardom. She was cast for her looks just like 80% of actresses. When they pass 25 then they have to become critical actors or marry a successful producer, agent, or another A-list actor to stay relevant.

She chose another path and is doing fine.

Btw, she was compared to other Latina bombshells who also disappeared from the big screen (Eva Mendes, Rosario Dawson) so you kinda get my point.

reply

Because she’s not a great actress. Also - a lot of her movies have bombed at the box-office, suggesting that she may not be the big draw that people think.

reply

Most of the time it's just a matter of bad career choices. She hasn't exactly been knocking them out of the park movie wise.

reply

She's running a billion dollar company. She really doesn't care about Hollywood anymore.

reply

I haven't seen her in anything since the Veil. That was a lame horror movie so I can see why just quit if that is all they cast you in. She has millions from her company anyway.

reply

Too old and married with kids. I think after she became a mother her career really begin to die and her male fans lost interest in her. Which is a shame because that was right around the time ''The eye'' came out and though the movie stunk her acting in it was a significant improvement from her early and mid 2000's roles. She was developing a skill set in other words. Shame.

why? don't give me a stupid link to one of those million ads in your face sites ... if you read it, tell us why?

That’s TMC-4’s shtick; link an article, post it here, discuss. Usually he lists some pretty bad articles that are so full or errors that you pretty much can’t even discuss the topic it’s presenting.
