she is not a great actress and her looks are average for a normal person and well below average for being a popular actress.

This, She's also a talented & versatile actress. And you're entitled to your opinion on her looks but I think she's quite attractive.

It took me a while to figure it out, but she's one of those actor's who just kind of has it.
When I think of the top actor's today, I generally don't include her on my list. It's weird because when I watch her in a movie or on TV doing an interview, she is charismatic as hell, and very watchable.
She really held her own with Streep in Prada. That can be hard to do. Especially considering the role that Streep had. Really a juicy role.
I guess I have to say I'm becoming a fan.
She really did hold her own with Streep and really showed her acting chops in Love and Other Drugs, she got an Golden Globes nom for it. Guess OP's not much of a fan.

I don't believe they are saying that she's unattractive, just that she's generally attractive in the "average beauty" sense. I don't usually find her attractive myself unless it's the right look accentuating her features, though I do understand what the OP means. Facially speaking, she's more or less a woman I'd run into at a few of the clubs in Beverly Hills or other parts of Los Angeles; easy find.

I've never watched Prada all the way through, I guess I just find fashion really boring. But I've enjoyed Hathaway's performance in pretty much everything that I've seen her in.
