I must first say that I love Kevin Smith. After watching Red State and finding his podcasts because of it, I decided he is my favorite human being in Hollywood. So, In my opinion, these are the best to worst Kevin Smith movies.

I don't think Tusk is bad, he just overindulged Depp a little, imo.

1. CHASING AMY - remains his most impressive dramatic effort, while maintaining the same brand of humor and dialogue strengths. also being his 2nd most low-budgeted film, it had more of the raw feel to it that CLERKS had and was lacking from MALLRATS.

2. CLERKS - great raw and refreshing directorial debut that came along just at the right time. did great things with very little resources.

3. MALLRATS - always considered it one of his best. Jason Lee steals the show with brilliant lovable-knucklehead-type lead character and the movie in general at least for me has everything i would expect after clerks with both comedy (crude and otherwise) and relationship humor. i don't get the initial cold reception.

4. CLERKS II - while not as good as the original, still a very decent sequel that brought smith "back to his roots".

5. DOGMA - was a tough one for me at first but came to love it.

6. JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK - the ultimate film for Kevin Smith fans up to that point and everything you would expect from those two silly characters. just pure fun, doesn't pretend to be anything else.

7. ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO - very enjoyable, quite like it. and i thought Seth Rogen did a great job.

8. RED STATE - quite impressive but i should probably watch it again to fully appreciate it.

9. TUSK - was weirdly excited to see it after listening to its inception as many of his fans did. enjoyed most of it, but was a little disappointed. some scenes felt too long and the lead character was a bit too unlikeable (even though i do like the actor). the "reveal" moment was wonderfully funny. a bit mixed feelings about that one.

10. JERSEY GIRL - wasn't well-received and not likely to get the same eventual fate as MALLRATS, and in this case i sort of understand. i enjoyed it and don't find it nearly as bad as many do, but i do find it mostly underwhelming.

11. COP OUT - i'm keeping in mind he did not write it to give him a pass, because it's the only film in my list i actually dislike and the one Kevin Smith movie i agree with the critics about. started ok but i completely lost interest very early. just didn't work for me at all.

This is probably the same order I'd put them in.

Just want to give a special mention to Justin Long in Zack and Miri, thought he totally stole it!
