I agree with 8 wins and would even add one more, but I do not agree entirely on which ones they should have been.

1975 - Jaws
1977 - Star Wars
1978 - Superman (beating out Midnight Express)
1980 - The Empire Strikes Back
1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (beating out Chariots of Fire)
1982 - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
1993 - Schindler's List
2004 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (beating out Finding Neverland)
2005 - Memoirs of a Geisha (beating out Brokeback Mountain)

Saving Private Ryan should have beaten Life is Beautiful (good score) but I think had the drama and comedy categories been merged, it would have lost to Shakespeare in Love by Stephen Warbeck. Though it would have been very close.

Born On The Fourth of July is a case where comedy and drama scores clashed and the Little Mermaid rightfully won despite the strong competition from Williams. However that year Henry V by Patrick Doyle, Glory by James Horner, and Batman by Danny Elfman had not been nominated shockingly and thus I believe there were better scores that year who deserved a nod.

Just my opinion though.

I think he deserved to win all 3 for the original trilogy of Star Wars. He makes really amazing music.

Actually I think (and I know I'm in the minority here) he should've won for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" over "Star Wars".

The fact that he didn't win an Oscar for his extraordinary Raiders of the Lost Ark score is a crime. One of the greatest film scores of all time.

John Williams is a clever musician. In Superman(1978), we hear a few notes from 'Can You Read My Mind?' when Lois thinks that Clark has been shot by the lowlife! We hear a few notes of the song when Lois meets Superman for the first time.

From the ones i've heard the full albums to, I'd say he deserved one for the first Home Alone movie, too. My God, it makes me mopey and happy every time I listen to it. And I get the chills. It's my 2nd favourite work of his after E.T.
