Hes not good anymore..

I think mr. williams is a bit too old to compose movies. I think his newest soundtracks are so subtle and stiff. It gives me no satisfaction to say this (i am a huge fan of his work with starwars and indiana jones) but his music just aint good enough anymore.. I am sad his doing the nest harry potter movies :(

I always say that though I like his new scores, he's lost his mojo. I do love the Indy 4 score which I think is even a little better than the music from Raiders of the Lost Ark but not as good as Temple of Doom.

Edit: Years later I accidentally stumble upon my own post. What the hell was I saying? Indy 4 a better soundtrack than Raiders? I must have been confused at the time.

People get old you know.... they even die sometimes.

Its pretty obvious that at his age he wont be as good as when he was 50 years old.

reply

On the other hand, a lot of the movies he's been given to score lately (Indy IV, anyone?) haven't exactly been inspiring material -- certainly not as juicy as earlier projects he worked on -- and I think that makes a big difference. I feel it shows in his work.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

To bee honest i saw minority report last night and the music was actually very good..

What the schnitzel does age have to do with quality? What? Gee are you ignorant, or sorry for the old "gee" *beep* are you ignorant.

Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes!

reply

Age has lots to do with quality. Most artists produce their best work when they're 30-50.

Tintin is probably John Williams most genius work in the last 15 years+. It may not be the most hummable but the number of themes and the dense and complex orchestral integration of those themes are excellent.
War Horse doesn't reach anywhere near Tintin's level of complexity but it has the heart to make up for it. The two scores are easily the best of the year.

reply

I've seen neither Tintin or War Horse yet, but if what you say is true, those soundtracks should be pretty good, heh. I'll check them out soon.
