saw her in a alfred hitchcock presents episode from 1962

Not in the UK, not yet anyway. She stayed famous and was often in the news until she died in 1984. Though I don't think her films or TV appearances have remained popular she herself was some kind of icon.

Another good TV episode to watch is 'Nurse Will Make it Better.' That's from Season 4 of the 'Thriller' series (1973-1976). Diana Dors is really sinister in that. She seemed to be content to play hag roles after she lost her figure. She is still the blonde bombshell in the 1962 Hitchcock episode but by 1975 her screen presence had changed.

She was the British Marilyn Monroe. There have been many great stars in Britain that never made it big in the US.

She was definitely more popular and well known in the UK. And she was a better actor than most people give her credit for. One of her best roles was in Yield To The Night, where she plays a women who kills her lover and his mistress and is sentenced to be hanged.

I also agree that when she lost her figure and got older, she embraced the notion of playing less glamorous roles.

Here in the U.S. she was more known for being Richard Dawson's wife than for her own accomplishments unfortunately.

Wasn’t she married to Richard Dawson?

I was just watching a video explaining that the Diana Dors AHP episode was not shown for years. Although the ending is not graphic, the AHP sponsors Revlon wouldn't allow it to be shown because of the conclusion of the story.
