Yeah, I thought he was an old man even then. I was confused as to why he didn't age at all over the subsequent years.

He looked at least 70 in the exorcist.

Jason Miller was the same age yet he died in 01.

Miller was ten years younger than von Sydow but the gap in age looked a lot greater than that!

He always looked a lot older than he was. In Wild Strawberries he was still in his twenties and already seemed middle aged.

He actually looked as old in The Exorcist as he ever did in later life. The make-up work on that film, on von Sydow and of course on Linda Blair, was extraordinary.

I am constantly amazed to this day with all the technological and budgetary increases in motion pictures, his old man make-up from fifty years ago is one of the few that is utterly impeccable. Conversely, Guy Pearce looked like shit in Prometheus.
