She acted and dressed like a woman, from the time she became one...
...and smartly, avoided any awkward, teeny-bopper transition in the process. She behaved and presented herself like a woman, even as a very young one -- like the old, Hollywood stars used to do -- and now she's not limited in the roles she can take as a full grown-up. She shunned the waif-ingenue roles and chose to act like a grown-up from the beginning of her adult career and now she'll be like Lauren Bacall or Barbara Stanwyck; able to age into her beauty, without public confusion or embarrassment.
She looks stunning now because she never tried to stay a teenager at 25, putting the viewing public in a weird position on how to interpret her place in cinema. I think she's been busy raising her kids and settling some important personal growth in her life but is now poised for another career boom.
Like her or not, she does occupy a distinct place in modern Hollywood's sea of slouchy dressed, listless, androgynous waifs, all trying to act and pass for 16, forever. I'm glad to see her busy in movies, again.
