Actually Very Brainy or an Average Intellect?

I do realize that this can only be aswered by someone who has known someone or has themselves conversed with him,but some film professionals do post on IMDB from time to time..... I have always wondered because he often plays very brainy types. All I learned on IMDB vis a vis this question is that he graduated from SUNY New Paltz and went to Yale Drama School(but I've never known what YDS acceptance revealed about a student's smarts). Thanks for your time with this.

As someone who does not know John, this can only be answered by what others who have worked with him say, and I've heard many people say he is intellegent.

alex, thanks for trying to help. 'Intelligent' I would figure is a given for him, but I'm interested in knowing if he is " a real brain" as we say.

Like many great actors, he has an emotional, intuitive intelligence, and is ... you know, not dumb in other areas... uuhhh [pausing to eat a rusty can] .... maybe I'm not the person to answer this. Me head hurt hard.
