Lana would have been a great Amber and she really wanted to play it,but MGM wouldn't loan her out to FOX.She had just the right look and one can see that, by watching "The Three Musketeers".Linda Darnell was beautiful and very good but Turner would have been perfect.

Lana would have given another run-of-the-mill performance.
I'm not a late arrival, jumping to quick judgments. I grew up in the Fifties, so I have spent many years watching movies. I'm a genuine movie buff, the third generation of film buffs, my father having been taught by his mother.
Linda Darnell was the right choice.

I need to return to it.
it's interesting.
But Linda Darnell was gorgeous and must have done a good job with the role.
I can't think of who should have played the roles.
Would have to get back into the book's characters to see who fits where.
Linda Darnell was indeed an excellent actress who deserves a lot more respect ,it's really a shame how she was treated by 20th Century Fox at the end of her contract ....she truly was a "Hollywood Star" ...
