Funny to think just a few years back this news would've been met with excitement 'oh wow the guy who is responsible for the current Superhero genre is doing another comic book hero!'

Now its 'eww'

reply

That's a shame. Gone are the days when he could make a movie I liked. I liked Xmen2 and Usual Suspects. Not much if any since.
RIP Red Sonja.

reply

isn't DOFP generally considered the best X movie?

Singers directed female superheroes effectively before in the X films. He should do ok with this

reply

DOFP was pretty dumb. I rank X2 and XFC as the only two that are "good." X1 was OK. The rest have moments to appreciate but are bad.

reply

It'll probably be better than the original, because talk about setting the bar low!

reply

Yes terrible original movie so remake can't go anywhere but up, and female empowering movies all the rage now. Not a bad choice for a comeback movie

reply

Not a good choice, either.

reply

With one caveat: they are never going to find as grand and talented an antagonist as Sandhal Bergman. They could cast Gina Carano (whom I adore) as the antagonist, but she still won’t have Sandhal’s grace, charisma and what the Japanese call Zanshin.

reply

I liked his akexi Jewish prayer song that was near and dear to him

reply

The studio and producers still want him on board despite the accusations which is a bad move because it would affect the film and bring it down.

reply

Boh Rhap making over 800m and getting best picture Oscar nom might have something to do with it

reply

It's been removed from Glaad awards. There's the real possibility that more and more is going to come out as we always see in these stories once those flood gates are open there's a lot more on the way.

Of course people will use their position as a filmmaker to get themselves out of trouble.

reply

The producer doesn't care, but top actors/actresses might.

Lerner stood by Singer last week after the Atlantic published new accounts of four men who claimed they had sex with Singer when they were teenagers. Singer dismissed the story as “a homophobic smear piece.”

“I know the difference between agenda-driven fake news and reality, and I am very comfortable with this decision,” Lerner said, in a statement. “In America people are innocent until proven otherwise.” In 2017, an ex-employee accused Millennium Films of widespread sexual harassment.

But Singer is only “attached” to the movie and doesn’t have a contract yet. Sources said Lerner would be loath to pay Singer the full $10 million reported to be his fee.

reply

His directing career is finished. I don't think anyone would want to join the project with him at the moment.

There is one studio which hired the disgraced A-list Director back in October. The film has not begun shooting yet. Before yesterday’s big expose, my source said that the aging studio head and a VP were pushing for the disgraced A-list Director. The son of the studio head was still fighting to ditch the director. Apparently the son still has morals. After the expose, the source said about the disgraced A list director’s involvement: "Huge chance it doesn’t happen."
A list director: Bryan Singer
Movie: "Red Sonja"
Studio: Millennium Films
Father: Avi Lerner (accused of sexual assault of Terry Crews)
Son: Yariv Lerner

reply

Would board of directors at Millennium Films force both Singer and Lerner off?

Think in Lerner's day keeping sex offenders in film projects was acceptable.

reply

Singers has been dropped from Red Sonja:

Lerner made news recently when he hired Bryan Singer to direct a reboot of Red Sonja. After Singer was accused in an Atlantic magazine article of sexually assaulting underaged boys, Lerner dismissed the story as "agenda-driven fake news," then walked the statement back. Eventually, he dropped Singer from the project because he was unable to secure a domestic distributor.

reply

He's not directing now, they couldn't get a distributor with him involved, if he stayed on it would affect the film being made, anyone would wanna work with him at the moment.

When is this Red Sonja scheduled to be released? There are no upcoming projects by that name on imdb.
