Would she have done better without Peter Bogdanovich

He made her into a laughing stock with "Daisy Miller" and "At Long Last Love." She was perfectly fine in "The Heartbreak Kid." Her acting under Bogdanovich's "hand" certainly deteriorated after "The Last Picture Show."

I have a feeling she learned to be a prima donna under the hand of Bogdanovich, who struck me as an egomaniac when I met him when he was at the bottom of his career.

Well, she may have had a little more humility. I think that Bogdanovich treated her like a spoiled child and basically told her that she really was better than everyone else, an opinion that she holeheartedly agreed with. Then, much like a spoiled child who goes out into the real world without their father/mother there to make excuses for them, she found that very few others shared that opinion.

The "real world" is a deliberately designed trap for retards. It is anything BUT the natural world or the world as it could be and should be. It is only the creative world that matters because it lights new ways and everything "good" in the "real world" springs from a minority of creative people called scientists and artists, at most a few thousand in each country, before it is imitated by others to improve their standards of living.

Cybill Shepherd is one of the primary reasons "The Last Picture Show" is one of the greatest films ever made. She is also one of the primary reasons "Taxi Driver" is one of the best films ever made. I don't see how anyone else could have done a better job in those roles. If she had done just those two films and nothing else, she would still have accomplished more, been part of more creativity, than 99.9% of other actors, who only dream of working with directors of the caliber of Bogdanovich and Scorsese, especially in the 1970s when both were in the prime of their careers.

That business over Dorothy Stratten and her sister seemed really creepy. He doesn't seem like a Mr Nice guy.
