Dehydration wouldn't be an issue as snow can be melted. And you can go for weeks without food.

It's possible. It comes down to mindset + fitness + skills + resources. Given his love for the outdoors and his experience of mountaineering I'd say he qualifies in mindset and fitness. As for skills and resources, has he ever undertaken survival training? I'm sure he had provisions with him but did he cater for for twelve days and counting? How good is he at utilising what's around him? I don't know the area, I don't know what's there.
BBC are reporting that Californian authorities say they have still found no trace whatsoever of him/his trail.
No. Unless he's faked his death and hauled off to start a new life somewhere else, he's dead.
