Marissa tomei is far better than this pasty British ferret

For all those pissing and moaning that Richardson deserved the Oscar over Tomei:

Marissa was absolutely ravishing and sexy in "My Cousin Vinny" and still managed to hit the comic timing on the mark every time and in every nuance. That is quite an accomplishment for any actress.

Just because Richardson had a 3 minute kitchen scene where she emoted and wailed frantically fans will think she deserved the Oscar more. But Marissa has done that herself and sometimes better than Richardson did. I thought Richardson's performance was rather bland up until that scene. What made that scene so powerful was the circumstances and tragedy that befell the family. That is called good scripting and direction, not necessarily great acting.

Marissa also has better screen presence and can play a myriad of types from glib hottie to self -sacraficing wife.

Verdict: Marissa won and earned the win.

Everyone is indeed entitled to an opinion, and I respect yours, but I do take issue with one of your points.

Your quip about Marisa having a "better screen presence" and being able to "play a myriad of types" seems rather ridiculous if you're suggesting that Miranda has neither of these qualities, especially when you consider the trio of wildly contrasting roles played by Richardson in 1992 alone. There was the humble, meek 1920s housewife in 'Enchanted April' (which won her the Golden Globe award), the aggrieved politician's wife in 'Damage' (which obviously notched her an Oscar nomination, a Bafta and numerous other accolades) and of course the toxic, enigmatic terrorist in 'The Crying Game'. The very fact she was so unrecognisable in these roles won her the New York Film Critics Circle Award that year for all three films, and deservedly so.

When you then take into account her tragic Ruth Ellis, her deranged Vivienne Eliot, her devillish Pamela Flitton, her repressed Queen Mary and the tour de force triple roles of Yvonne, Mrs. Cleg and Mrs. Wilkinson, then I think you'll get my point.

And I haven't even mentioned Queenie :).

Do I look like a people person?

LOOOOOOOL
If Miranda Richardson had the Oscar that because she deserved to win...and not Marissa. That's all.
Miranda IS THE BEST...It is like that :p

Marissa is good.

Miranda is un-effin'-believably great.

Please. Marisa Tomei hasn't done anything notable (aside from The Wrestler) in years. In Grace is Gone, she was the "Woman at Pool." Oh, how the "mighty" have fallen. Ha, mighty. As if she actually had a decent career.

That's hysterical that you would even compare her "acting skills" which are mediocre at best, to Miranda Richardson's skills, which have won her countless awards and many adoring fans. Lolz-ski. You're awesome.

Thanks for the laugh!

Couldn't have said it better myself! Miranda is absolutely amazing in her contrasting roles and totally unrecognisable from one character to the next! I completely disagree with her performance being 'bland' and only good because of the scripting, she was completely believable when she was mourning her son and it was a heart-wrenching scene.

Considering you're such a big fan of Marisa, you should know that it is a single 's' in her name.

Oh and one other thing; "pasty British ferret"?? What on earth are you talking about?

Firstly, Marisa Tomei won because she was the only American in the category.

Also she's never done a scene where she's had to dig deep to convey what Miranda did in her big scene in Damage. Not many actresses have.

Yes she won the Oscar but she doesn't have the body of work Miranda has and the respect either. I think she's a limited actress and doesn't have half of the versatility of Miranda Richardson. Clearly you're not familiar with her career.

Richardson in Damage was vastly superior to Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. Her performance was supposed to be comedic, but she wasnt funny at all. She gave a much better performance in The Wrestler
