Reagan was an inspiring and wonderful leader...my pop encouraged me to refer to him as 'Uncle Ronnie' when i was a boy
He made my household very happy and confident:)
Growing up, he gave us hope, he stared down the frightening Russians
He was a major player in the ongoing war on the mental illness called communism
I salute him and loved him as my president
The current crop of wannabes leave me a bit cold...i wouldnt light their smoke if they asked nice

De-regulating Ronny was an abomination. Good people suffered over his idiotic policies. If people want to crawl into his grave and warm his hideous, soulless corpse, let them have it. As far as I'm concerned, he was a lackey for whatever Wrong Wing lobbying group gave the most $$ and had the most influence. The guy was an Empty Suit, a handsome grin while being spineless. All you RR lovers can line up to ... man, I'm so pissed I don't even want to say what I want to say.

reply

I loved the guy
Best to politely disagree here...Reagan was a great fellow

reply

Idiotic? He won the Cold War and did OK domestically.

reply

"The Trump of his time?"

Yes. The Left demonized Reagan just like they're doing with Trump.

It's standard politics for Democrats. Because they can't run on their policies, so they're only recourse is attack their opponents personally.

reply

What many people don't know is that Reagan had MAGA as a slogan even back then. Other than that, i'm not so sure. Reagan won pretty much every state. USA is muchmore divided now for anything like that to ever be possible again.

reply

Troll question, but I'll play.

Like Trump:
TV personality, Republican

Not Like Trump:
Articulate, genuine, well-mannered, respected, intellectual

reply

I agree completely.

Couldn't have said it better.

There are similarities in that they inherited a county from a demokkkrat president who’d basically given up on achieving greatness for the country.

Under Carter academics/media discussed making the presidency a 3 person job because clearly it was too overwhelming for 1 person since Carter couldn’t do it. Under Obama 1% economic growth was “the new norm” and the solution to unemployment was to call it “funemployment”.

Like with Trump, the demokkkrat party/media hated Reagan. They claimed he was going to start WW3. A nuclear war. Made AIDS happen. Yada yada.

Like with Trump, northeastern establishment Republicans hated Reagan. He and HW Bush were strongly opposed during the 1980 primaries.

Reagan and Trump are both pro American pro business. The demokkkrat party is neither. They are pro demokkkrat party.

Reagan was an exceptionally inspiring leader. He turned the country around and his re-election was an absolute landslide. And he did it in a time in which there was zero conservative media.

reply

You do realize that like Trump, Reagan was originally a Democrat until he decided to go for higher office?

reply

Both did great!

reply

It is hard to imagine the 80's any other way. What we got was one of the single most peaceful and prosperous decades in the HISTORY of the United States.

reply

Trump is a celebrity and so was Reagan. They will both be remembered as presidents of the United States. They each represent the Republican party in their office. There have been no wars under either of them (Yet).

I think that's about as much similarity as I can see off the cuff.

reply

Reagans policies sucked--no question. But unlike trump, he did have savvy (in many cases) to make it go down.

Trump openly campaigns with for racist groups, something Reagan was savvy enough to avoid. Reagan was just aware/alert enough to know that cheering on racists in public was not good.
