Claude Rains.

Can anyone name some great Claude Rains movies?

Casablanca
The Man Who Reclaimed His Head

Claude Rains is one of those very few actors who is just brilliant in anything, elevating any movie in which he appeared.

Adding a few favourites to the list (Casablanca is, of course, a great performance and truly iconic character).

Notorious - an unusually complex and sympathetic villain in this great Hitchcock thriller
The Invisible Man
The Adventures of Robin Hood
The Sea Hawk
Mr Smith Goes to Washington
Now, Voyager
The Prince and the Pauper
The Wolf Man
The Unsuspected

Because these boards are naturally dominated by the under-30 crowd. I would be willing to bet that if you randomly polled 1,000 Movie Chat members, 5 or less could name a film Claude was in, and less than 15 could pick him out of of a lineup of Ten of his contemporaries.

That's funny, all the great old actors that were dead or almost gone, or just over the hill when I was growing up I learned and knew. Now no one knows them, greats like John Wayne or Gary Cooper, and I don't know or care much about actors any more there are so many of them. I feel like the writers and directors are the ones who make the movies, actors just show up and talk.

...and keep in mind that many posts/boards from the IMDB boards were not migrated to Movie Chat. Many of course were, but many were not and thus start from scratch.

Other than Casablanca I like him most as Julius Caesar in Caesar and Cleopatra, alongside Vivien Leigh. A decent movie written by George Bernard Shaw.

Justin Bieber has many more entries. A more pitiful commentary on popular culture can hardly be imagined.
