He wanted to have some fun and he was hysterical as Woody Allen. His wife is from Toronto, she produced 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up.

He tweeted that it was the funniest script he's ever read.

Multi Millionaire A-list actor Ed Norton and his multi millionaire film producer wife are worth in the region of a hundred million dollars, so no, he doesnt do crap like sausage party for the money.

I couldnt tell you why he is in it...maybe he just wanted a break from the baby.

"dont you hear that horrible screaming all around you? That screaming men call silence."

Sadly, he did say its one of the funniest scripts he's ever read. It was not funny. The same 4 or 5 jokes were hitting us over the head all 90 minutes. Dropping the F bomb every 8 words got annoying. Lost any impact. As much as it wanted to be clever ,it wasnt. Although, Norton's character had the most unique voice (read he was going for Woody Allen, not sure)

But for the WHY: check out his wife's movie work

Elf-producer (met Adam Mckay)
Anchorman-producer (began working with Apatow)
40 year old virgin- producer
knocked up-producer
superbad-producer
forgetting sarah marshall-producer
pineapple express-producer

Apatow has called her "the rare woman who always wants to take the joke farther than any man wants to go. All nudity in my films is a result of Shauna pushing me and calling me a wimp."[2] Actor Jonah Hill has also claimed that Robertson is "way more perverse than any of us", referring to the male writers, directors, producers and actors from Apatow's production company Apatow Productions.[3]

Sooo...not a far stretch that Norton keeps in touch with Rogen, Apatow and their group.

But man, that movie was not funny.

He probably agreed to do the movie because it seemed like a couple of fun hours in the recording booth. Voice work is easy money.
