New Best Actor Nomination

While Viggo didn't get the Golden Globe Award, he's just been nominated by BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) for Best Actor for CAPTAIN FANTASTIC.

I suspect he might be up for a Screen Actors Guild Award and, possibly, the Oscar as well. Announcements forthcoming in a short time on those.

While I know he doesn't give much of a darn about awards, these are prestigious - and I hope he at least appreciates the implied praise and approval of these nominations for his outstanding work.

I was right in my previous post, but didn't know it then.

Viggo is nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for Best Actor/Captain Fantastic in the SAG Awards.

And the entire cast is nominated for Best Ensemble Drama for Captain Fantastic.

On the Oscars, nominations are put up by the branch/group involved - that is, only actors vote for Best Actor nominations. Let's see what they think - nomination voting has to be in by tomorrow, so the announcements will be soon.

Good luck, Viggo!

not having been able to see any of these, I need to ask:

Are Manchester and La La that good or just fresher in the judges memories?

I'm scratching my head as to why he was nominated for best actor for this movie. What was so special about his performance? And the movie ending? Pretty silly IMO, almost as bad as the ending of The Road.

Compared to his acting in History of Violence I thought he was outstanding in this.

But not to Eastern Promises. I still don't see why he was outstanding. 

In my opinion, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC is a controlled, very honest performance for Viggo. The situation is interesting - he's raised his family in a very different way, non-conformist; and they are smart in ways and subjects that most kids their age wouldn't even begin to know. But he, and they, are not used to being out in the "real world." When the wife/mother dies, Viggo and the children have to come out and live in that world, find their way in it - and for Viggo's character, that is difficult to deal with.

I thought his performance - and, of course, the script - were outstanding. Just my opinion.

Now, let's see what the Oscar nominations turn out to be....

I found it very natural and believable, the same for Frank Langella.
