Interesting Valerie outlive Mary Tyler Moore

I hate to say it, it makes me wonder if Valerie Harper was doing a publicity stunt with that whole tumor thing. And poor Mary was probably so afraid she was going to lose her friend – and instead, her friends end up losing her. It's very tragic.

For a show that premiered over 46 years ago, only 2 of the principle cast have passed away. Ted Knight in 1986 and now MTM. Even Nanette Fabray who recurred as Mary's mother is still around.

No she wasn't. If she were, she wouldn't still be speaking out four years later, now mostly as a voice for other people with the illness.

She also, in an interview she and Mary and a couple other members of the MTM cast did shortly after she announced her diagnosis, pointed out that she thought Mary deserved more acknowledgment with her having been bravely battling diabetes for years. While at that point in time it looked like we were about to lose Valerie, it's been a year or two coming that Mary was fading :(, and Valerie has spoken here and there about it.

Yes. It's amazing they've all held up so long besides Ted Knight. Mary now as well, of course, but she thankfully did have a full, long life, even surviving a lot of major adversity over the years. I'm glad it sounds like she had a good probably 25 to 30-ish years at the end where she seemed to be finally happy and at peace.
