I loved Basil Rathbone, as who did not?*, but Miller’s (and, to be fair, the show’s) take on Holmes does the job for me. He takes Nicole
Williams’ performance in The Seven Percent Solution to new, more contemporary, heights. His Holmes is a delicious combination of manic, tempted, tormented, near-superhumanly gifted, obnoxious and lovable. Miller makes us feel that his demons are real, and so are his gifts. That’s hard to do, let alone on a Network TV show.

* My quibble with the Rathbone films is the depiction of Dr. Watson as the bumbling-ass comic relief. The doctor was no such thing.
