What the Hell Happened to Kristy McNichol?

Those are some super-cute photos in that link, reminds me why I had such a HUGE crush on her in Middle School and High School !

As I recall at the time she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder which was said to be the reason she was randomly not showing up on set and why she left Empty Nest for a while. So while she now claims that she retired young, the reality is she was pretty much on the do not hire list in Hollywood due to her problems. Would you want to put any movie or TV show at risk of missing production schedules due to an actress that has mental problems and might not show up for work for weeks at a time? No studio could have ever gotten any insurance if they had her on the show.

What happened to her brother Jimmy too? He was a ‘70s teen idol. Do these ex-stars have jobs or are they still living off their money from the ‘70s?

Slightly off topic, but I checked the link and saw some of the turkeys McNichol was in, and Pirates is interesting to say the least. I've never seen the film, but from the still, it looks like they took Christopher Atkins right from Blue Lagoon, bare chested with the same hair cut, and tried to leverage his "appeal" into a hit with Pirates. Whose call was that???
