Richard Dawson seemed obsessed with him

I've been watching old reruns of The Match Game, and it seems as if Richard Dawson was obsessed with Paul Lynde. He would constantly do impressions of him, as if he wanted to be him. Does anyone who's watched the show know what I mean?
