Make sure you hire John Lithgow, and make sure you get him to overact. There's nothing finer. (See Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai for a prime example.)

Really? Cliffhanger showed that Renny Harlin can't work with actors when even an accomplished character actor like Lithgow comes out wooden.
